Pictures at an Exhibition

The ukraininan composer Valentin Silwestrow developed his very own soundscape in which nostalgia and utopia are merged in a very pleasant manner. The trumpet really benefitted from the advances in instrument technology: did it only have limited capacities during the 19th century, many things changed during the 20th century when new possibilities arose and new vituosity and expression was within reach. Krzysztof Penderecki's trumpet concert functions as a fascinating proof of this. Modest Mussorgski's "Pictures at an Exhibition", originally written for piano, gave Maurice Ravel inspiration for his arguably most sophisticated instrumentation. Mussorgski's boundless creativity stimulated Ravel to many unheard and fresh sound effects. The colours of orchestra gleam in brilliance never known before.
