Junges Sinfonieorchester Dresden

Junges Sinfonieorchester Dresden

The Junge Sinfonieorchester Dresden at the Carl Maria von Weber High School of Music is an integral part of the musical scene in Dresden, playing concerts at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music, at the Semperoper and at the Kulturpalast.

As an important part of the musical education, the orchestra offers all young instrumentalists the possibility to create a base for practical artistic experience and communication under the guidance of professionals from the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Dresdner Philharmonie.  Among the conductors that frequently lead the orchestra are Rudolf Neuhaus, Klaus-Dieter Stephan, Stefan Bilz and Lothar Seyfarth. From 2002 to 2011, Tilo Schmalenberger was the orchestra’s chief conductor, and since 2011, Wolfgang Behrend holds this position. The orchestra had the honour to welcome special guests such as Sir Colin Davis, Gustavo Dudamel, Michael Sanderling and Vladimir Jurowski.

Numerous prizes and collaborations with other European schools mark the orchestra’s work. Since 2003, the orchestra is regularly featured at the yearly benefit concert for young cancer patients held at the Dresden Kreuzkirche and at vespers of the Dresden Kreuzchor.
