Winfried Apel

Winfried Apel

Winfried Apel was born in 1954 in Thuringia. Until 1972, he had piano lessons with Amadeus Webersinke, followed by four years of studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory Moscow under Lew Oberin and Jakow Sak. He returned to Dresden, where he studied at the Carl Maria von Weber College of Music, again under Amadeus Webersinke, and graduated with a master’s degree in 1982. Since then, he has been teaching at the same college.

In 1972, he won First Prize at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig.

He has released two discs with works of Ludwig van Beethoven, and has done numerous recordings for radio and television.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he successfully performs his wide repertoire, which includes some rare pieces, during concert tours all across Germany, Europe, and Asia.
