Ain Anger

Internationally celebrated in the Wagner repertoire, the Estonian-born bass has previously been heard worldwide as Fasolt/Das Rheingold (Vienna State Opera, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu), Hunding/ Die Walküre (Vienna, Houston Grand Opera, Oper Frankfurt), and Hagen/ Götterdämmerung (Canadian Opera Company, Tokyo Spring Festival); as Daland/Der Fliegende Hollaender (La Scala Milan, Washington National Opera) Pogner/Die Meistersinger (Vienna, San Francisco Opera) and Koenig Heinrich/Lohengrin (Vienna, Deutsche Oper Berlin). Anger has a full schedule this season, performing in a number of different productions with roles ranging from Dosifey/Khovanshchina (Vienna) to Hunding/Die Walkuere (Bavarian State Opera), Pimen/Boris Godunov (Opéra National de Paris) and Koenig Marke/Tristan und Isolde with the Cleveland Orchestra.  A long-time resident of Vienna, Anger has made his home at the Vienna State Opera, where he has become a great audience favorite and performed more than 40 major roles from the German, Italian and Russian repertoires.  Recent highlights include a hugely acclaimed role debut as Boris Godunov in Richard Jones’ production at Deutsche Oper Berlin, the same production that marked his Royal Opera House, Covent Garden house debut as Pimen under the baton of Sir Antonio Pappano.
