Axel Thielmann

Axel Thielmann was born in 1964 in Jena. After completing an apprenticeship as an agricultural engineer, his military service and an occupation as auxiliary nurse, he studied voice at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar from 1985 to 1991. Since 1991, he has been working as a free-lance artist, singer and actor. Since 1993, he has worked as a speaker for MDR Kultur and since 1996 also for the television networks MDR and ARD. He has participated in numerous audio drama productions and has recorded countless audiobooks. In addition, he has become known to a larger audience as a writer for radio, television and concerts, not least as the writer and presenter of the so-called “Sonntagsraten” on MDR Kultur. Countless appearances with the ensembles of the MDR, the GewandhausChor, the Vocalconsort Leipzig, the Dresdner Kreuzchor or the Hallenser Madrigalisten have led him to many concert halls and festivals. He also works with renowned organists, presents concerts and gives chanson recitals. Regular readings and reading series round off the artist’s field of activity. Thielmann lives in Leipzig.
