Marina Prudenskaya

Russian mezzo-soprano Marina Prudenskaya studied singing at the conservatory in her native city St. Petersburg. Following her studies, she was engaged by the Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow. In 2000, she changed to Staatstheater Nuremberg, where she went on to acquire numerous roles of her repertoire. In addition to several other awards, Prudenskaya won the German ARD music competition in 2003.

From 2005 until 2007, she was a member of the ensemble at Deutsche Oper Berlin - guest engagements at the festivals in Aix-en-Provence and Bayreuth as well as at numerous European opera houses followed. From 2007 to 2013, she was an ensemble member at the Opera Stuttgart where she remains a regular guest until this day. During 2009/10 season, she sang the Verdi Requiem with the Berliner Philharmoniker at the Salzburg Easter Festival under Mariss Jansons and could be heard in the Rheingold co-production by the Milan Scala and Staatsoper Berlin under Daniel Barenboim. Further, she was a guest in Palermo and Hamburg as Amneris/Aida, in Santiago de Compostela as Alcina/Orlando furioso, and at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Octavian.

Since 2013, Marina Prudenskaya is a member of the ensemble at the Staatsoper Berlin, where her roles include Composer/Ariadne auf Naxos, Venus/Tannhäuser, and Eboli/Don Carlo. In addition, she was a guest in Valencia with Verdi's Aida, in Stuttgart with Mussorgky's Khovanshchina, made her debut as Azucena in Verdi's Il trovatore at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and returned to the Bayreuth Festival as Waltraute/Götterdämmerung. On the concert stage, Marina Prudenskaya could recently be heard in Beethoven's Missa solemnis under the baton of Sebastian Weigle, Beethoven's Symphony no 9 in Montpellier under Christian Arming, as well as in Verdi's Messa da Requiem with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Marek Janowski.

In the upcoming season, Marina Prudenskaya will be making her return to Opera Zurich as Gertrud/Witch in Robert Carsen's new staging of Hansel and Gretel. In addition she will be performing in two new Verdi productions: in Macbeth as Lady Macbeth in Antwerp under Paolo Carignani and in Don Carlo as Eboli in Mannheim. At Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden she will be on stage as Néris in the new production of Cherubini's Médée as well as Euphrat in the world premiere of the revised version of Jörg Widmann's Babylon, both under GMD Daniel Barenboim. Concerts lead her to Dresden and Nuremberg.
