Kulturpalast

The new concert hall is the heart of the rebuilt Kulturpalast right in the city centre. Similar to the philharmonie in Berlin and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig it was built in the so called Weinberg style which guarantees clear acoustics. High point of the hall is the organ constructed by Eule (a company from Bautzen) with 67 registers and 4109 pipes - Dresdens only concert organ specifically designed for the repertoire of the 19th and 20th century. The concert hall with its 1760 seats and mid-oriented stage offers the Dresdner Philharmonie optimal spatial and tonal conditions, for the first time in its 150 years old history.

The Kulturpalst was build 1967-69 and its multipurpose hall offered various possibilities for different kinds of performances and now shines in its new appearance - with transparant front glazing, reconstructed foyers true to the original and an all new concert hall inside. At the same time the Kulturpalast is home to the cabaret "Herkuleskeule" ("The club of Hercules") and the municipal central library. As a culturual centre of the city it is opened all day to everyone, locals and visitors alike.
